DLi Defined: Pixel Orientation

In this second set of our DLi Defined series, we explore the variety of DMD pixel orientations. To understand the three prevailing pixel orientations in today’s photonics industry, it’s important to understand the history. These orientations were created and named at different times, leading to overlapping and somewhat confusing terminology. Orthogonal orientation came first. TRP came later, but it’s actually an “orthogonal” orientation too – we told you it could be misleading! Very important to keep in mind when examining differences between the three orientations – TRP ’tilts’ but doesn’t ‘roll.’

In this clip, we’ll cover the diamond pixel orientation: ideal for pico projectors.

In this clip, we’ll cover the orthogonal pixel orientation. These DLP chips are often used for high speed industrial, medical, and advanced display applications.

In this clip, we’ll cover the TRP pixel orientation. These DLP chips are often used for DLP 3D printing and scanning applications.
